Ethiopian and Eritrean Special Needs Community (EESNC) is a nonprofit organization in Silver Spring supporting 705 local Ethiopian and Eritrean families who have a child with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Relying on volunteers, in-kind donations, and grants, EESNC offers all its services free of cost and in Amharic. EESNC provides regular parent support groups, individual counseling and special education advocacy assistance, and conducts educational trainings for parents on child development and on how to navigate the healthcare and educational systems. EESNC also provides social events and an interactive arts program to enhance the development and well-being of Amharic-speaking individuals with special needs.
